Frequent Questions

Short answers about the one-time Travel Plan by Inman.

What is this plan?

It is a one-time plan. If someone dies 75 or more miles from their legal residence, or in another country, Inman Shipping Worldwide arranges the trip home. This is not a reimbursement plan. Inman has to arrange the service.

What does it cost?

The individual plan is $495. The couples plan is $990. You pay once. There is no annual renewal and no extra fee later for that membership.

Arranging a trip home on your own can cost about $11,000 in the United States and as much as $40,000 from another country. This plan is the arrangement itself, not a check for a set dollar amount.

Do participants pay every year?

No. The fee is paid once: $495 for one person or $990 for two. It is not an annual charge.

Who arranges the trip home?

Inman Shipping Worldwide arranges it, through its network of agents. The family does not hire the funeral home or book the transportation on their own.

Where is the plan covered?

It applies when the death is 75 miles or more from legal residence. That includes another country, not only the United States.

What counts as legal residence?

Legal residence is the person’s fixed, full-time home. If they lived at an address for 180 days or more in the 12 months before death, that address counts. A nursing home counts the same way after 180 days.

If someone enrolls while they are away from home, the plan does not start until they have gone home and then traveled again. The plan does not cover medical tourism.

How does the family use the plan when someone dies?

Call 1-888-889-8508 before anyone moves the body or hires a funeral home. That number is for arranging the trip home.

Inman sets up a funeral home or service near the place of death, preparation for the trip, the shipping papers (including customs papers when they are needed), one death certificate, and transportation to the funeral home at home. The family is kept up to date. There is nothing more to pay for that trip. The membership was already paid.

Does the plan include the flight and shipping?

Yes. Inman arranges transportation home, including the container needed for that trip. You are not sent a bill to pay back later, and the plan does not mail you a reimbursement check.

What if arrangements are made without calling first?

The plan will not pay the family back. If someone else is hired first, or the family pays those bills first, there is no reimbursement. The service has to be arranged by Inman. Call 1-888-889-8508 at the time of need.

Is this only for frequent travelers?

No. It is for a death 75 miles or more from legal residence, whether that trip is rare or not. International travel under the plan is not limited to a set number of trips. Before an international trip, call 1-888-889-8508 so the service center can be ready to help.

Is there an age limit?

No. There is no age limit, no health questions, and no claim form.

How long does enrollment take?

The plan takes effect when payment is processed and an enrollment number is issued. It is not active before that. If you enroll while you are already away from home, it still does not start until you return home and then travel again.

What do participants receive after they buy?

After a paid plan is received, the participant gets a welcome letter, a hard plastic member card about the size of a credit card, and a change of address card.

What choices does the family have?

Enrollment asks for service type as Funeral or Cremation, and for gender as Male or Female. It also needs the legal residence: street, city, state, and ZIP.

If a funeral home at home has not been named ahead of time, the family is helped to choose one when the plan is used.

Can we name a funeral home ahead of time?

You can name the funeral home at home. If you have not, the family is still helped to choose one. Either way, call 1-888-889-8508 before anyone moves the body so Inman can arrange the trip.

What about embalming and preparation?

Inman handles the arrangements the trip requires. That includes contacting a licensed funeral home or professional embalming service near the place of death, moving the person there for preparation, and preparing them for transport. What that preparation includes depends on the trip. Inman takes care of it as part of arranging the journey home.

Who do I call with questions before I buy?

Sales questions, before you enroll, go to 260-417-2468. If a death has happened and you need the trip home arranged, call 1-888-889-8508 instead.
