How it works
- It starts at 75 miles. If the death is 75 miles or more from legal residence, including another country, the plan can be used.
- Call before anyone moves the body. Inman Shipping Worldwide sets up the funeral home, the paperwork, and the transportation. If the family pays those bills first, the plan does not reimburse them.
- Nothing more to pay for that trip. The membership was paid once, $495 or $990.
The cost of dying away from home
A few rules
- Legal residence is the full-time home. If someone lived at another address for 180 days or more in the year before death, that address counts. A nursing home counts the same way after 180 days.
- If you enroll while you are away from home, the plan does not start until you have gone home and then traveled again.
- The plan does not cover medical tourism.
- If you have not named a funeral home at home, the family is helped to choose one.
