A long stay in Florida can change which home counts
There is no separate Florida plan. Where the person really lives is what matters.
Legal residence is the full-time home. If someone stays at a Florida address for 180 days or more in the 12 months before they die, that Florida address becomes the legal residence, even if a northern address is still on the form. Dying in that Florida home would not qualify. Dying 75 miles or more from it would, including a trip up north or a cruise.
Buy the plan from the legal residence, not while you are already on the trip. If you enroll while you are away, coverage waits until you go home and travel again.
